My mom is super awesome. I have been one of those lucky people that doesn't just love my mom because I'm stuck with her, I like her too. A lot. In fact, she's always been one of my very best friends. Sometimes, when I felt like she was my ONLY friend in the world, my world felt full of friends. I honestly think she's the best mom in the entire world. I hope I can do half as good of a job as she did, and I am so grateful I can call her whenever I am doubting myself, my motherly abilities, anything - and by the time we hang up I feel like I've got it all figured out. From the time I was little, she always gave me a voice. She listened to me with as much intention and sincerity when I was talking about some trivial high school drama as she did when we were going through major life events, like birth and death, and when I was hormonally losing it and just needed someone to listen to me vent, she was there for me all the same. She wears her heart on her sleeve, she's empathetic, funny, genuine, giving, and true to herself. I am grateful that I have had such a great example of what it means to be a mother, what it means to really connect with people, and how to unconditionally love. All of the very most important things I learned from my mom, and I hope she knows how awesome she really is.
So, on this beautiful fall day I called her up and said, "you need some new pictures for your website and the leaves are gorgeous. Can I come over?" I was there in 15 minutes and she totally went with it. We were on the same wavelength (as usual) and I think they turned out great. I wanted to capture who she was as a person and what she has to offer. She started her own business called DreamStream and has combined all her greatest talents. DreamStream provides wedding officiants (both ordained and civil celebrants) and they create mind blowing personalized wedding ceremonies, along with many other wedding/special event related services. Check them out, everyone working for her is really one of a kind. This is my mom.... :)
And because I know what really makes my mom smile.... To end the post, a picture of Zoe! (my daughter, her granddaughter, and pretty much the coolest person in the whole world). While I was doing my mom's pictures if i wanted a good smile I would just say, "think of Zoe!" It worked every time.
Hey mom, you rock! And to everyone reading this that is getting married anytime in the near future, if you want someone to work with you that really cares about your relationship and making sure that your wedding ceremony truly reflects who you are as a couple, is creative, unique, and a real representation of the symbolic importance of the beginning of your life together -- call my mom!
Oh Ali, that those are the most beautiful sentiments about me that could ever be written! I mean... I can die now. My day's work is done. I've been living my life, reaching for and honing that image of myself as a GOAL... For you to say it aloud - as if I have actually accomplished it - moved me to tears. You are my pride & joy. Far more than everything I ever dreamed of - my blessing. My love. Mom
